The origin story of Penis Envy is legendary in mycology, widely believed to have been isolated by famous ethnobotanist Terence McKenna from a massive wild specimen found in the Amazon Rainforest in the 1970s. It was later genetically stabilized by subsequent breeders. Because of a specific genetic mutation, this strain does not develop a normal veil on the underside of its cap, meaning its cap remains small, rounded, and closely hugged to its massive, pale-ivory stalk. Because it looks distinctly phallic, it earned its unique name. Unlike standard Psilocybe cubensis strains, Penis Envy drops almost no spores, making it exceptionally difficult to propagate and highly prized among specialized cultivators.

Mycological testing reveals that true Penis Envy can be two to three times more potent than baseline strains like Golden Teachers. Dosing must be drastically scaled down (e.g., a microdose is often a microscopic fraction of a gram) to prevent unexpected, overwhelming psychological distress.
Found in exceptionally high ratios compared to standard wild strains, allowing for an incredibly fast-acting psychoactive onset upon consumption.
